Joao Gil for Difusor Productions&#38;nbsp;
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Enigma EP&#38;nbsp;- Special Edition
Enigma is the first EP release by Difusor Productions. To celebrate another step in this young collective of producers, we have teamed to deliver a cover design and a limited edition partnership with 50 Artists to deliver 50 unique artwork covers based on each artist’s response to the tracks of this release.&#38;nbsp;


	On your left you can see an example of CD cover designs in selection stage and above some of the selected examples by Portuguese artist Filipa Camacho.

The challenge becomes the design of a label that includes all information, previously spread over the cover and booklet.

Design elements facilitate the reading of this information and attached is a QR code that leads to Difusor’s website, expanding their reach.

The project will culminate on an exhibition and performances to be anounced later this fall

 Logo Design

Brand Identity.


	We developed the Logo, colour scheme and typography for Difusor.

Difusor aims to raise awareness and thus spread or difuse contemporary classical music via releases, videos, events and interviews.

We created a minimal aesthetic by creating a simple pallet between black and white, with enough shades to give richness to backgrounds and typography, thus accentuating spaces within layouts and facilitating reading times.

The typography used for the headers contrasts with traditional classical music aesthetics, by being extremly round and fun by contrasting rounded terminals with clear geometric shapes.

This contributes to a more contemporary and entertaining look and feel to the brand, which in in synergy with their aim of reaching new audiences.


	The logotype also clearly illustrates their&#38;nbsp; mission of reaching new audiences by difusing and gently blurring the typography, giving it a dynamic effect that seems to be spreading.

This also draws parallel not only with their goals but also with the difficult of containing Classic Contemporary Music as a genre but more has a boundless grey areas of music in expansion.

To ensure that the logo would be legible in smaller formats was also created a breaking point for the logo in which a lesser diffuse version should be used.

Our goal was to keep information architecture simple and clear, developing three main sections for the website in which Difusor would promote material: Releases, Sessions and Interviews.
This was a turning point in their activity for they had always tried to promote content by release date, which created inconsistency and a lack of understanding by their audience of which services and content were they delivering.Keeping a 50/50 ratio was an initial idea explored around the squared formats of CD boxes and booklets. It also allowed the content not only to be found easily and consistently accross the website, but also to handle long title names from musical groups and collectives.The website also opens with a further development of the Difusor brand, projecting a slow fade-in/out that visualizes the emission of sound waves as a metaphor of spreading classical music.Throughout the website, the content also takes the main stage, given the darker colours, mimicking the dark rooms and stages inhabited by the performers in the videos, typical of a music concert.The website shines for it’s simplicity that enables navigation thorugh different content with a minimalist and professional but contemporary feel to an innovative and contemporary music promoter.

&#38;nbsp; To celebrate its 25-year partnership with World Press Photo, Canon is launching an immersive virtual gallery. Canon, world-leader in imaging solutions, today announces the UK launch of a World Press Photo virtual reality experience – an immersive virtual gallery. 

The exhibition tour, which was launched in Amsterdam, showcases 45 winning images from the 60th World Press Photo Contest – over half of which were shot on Canon. In a bid to inspire a wider photography audience, users can explore the 45 best images of 2017 – and their incredible stories – at any time. The World Press Photo VR app is available for free download in the Oculus Store.

Those who engage with the VR experience will see the winning photos displayed in a virtual gallery that evolves based on each users’ individual interaction with the photos. Visiting a gallery is now just a virtual reality headset away thanks to Canon’s VR experience, which allows people to explore a full photographic exhibition from the comfort of their home through the World Press Photo app. The innovative, immersive app places the user in a vast gallery space surrounded with images from the 60th World Press Photo competition. Created by the team at irista, Canon’s photography management platform, it brings the 45 World Press Photo winning images, over half of which were shot on Canon, to life through VR.

Images celebrating the best in visual storytelling are displayed in a virtual gallery that evolves based on each user’s interaction. Focusing on an image ahead causes the user to glide forwards until they are looking up at an imposing high-res photograph. Looking around or behind will move you to other winners’ images, while the stories behind the photographs are narrated by Stuart Franklin, the Magnum photographer and Chair of the General Jury at World Press Photo 2017. Exploration is deliberately slow, with the app designed to encourage a gentle pace, quiet contemplation and enjoyment of the novelty of having a gallery all to oneself.

“We are offering people the chance to visit the exhibition without having to travel to the biggest cities in the world and I think that adds a lot of value” says João Gil, Lead User Experience for VR:“We developed this project so that it would create a contemplative environment where the user is not distracted by any element except the photograph, where interactions are very limited and only defined by each user’s engagement with the shot.”

This new approach, released as Canon and World Press Photo celebrate a 25-year strong partnership, acknowledges that while its content is not new, the presentation is unique. “The photos have already been seen online and if you want to quickly scroll through while on the bus home you can, but that wasn’t for us,” explains João. “VR has the power to transport you to any reality. We created a reflective environment for people to explore and engage at a deeper and more intimate level. We also wanted to create something that people could go back to and get something new from the experience during each visit.”

Photos are taken with high quality, with our photographers incredible passion for the craft. Nevertheless our experience with photography is often associated with the small screens. We wanted to rovide a solution for Canon users to enjoy a seamless experience of consuming their photographic content on their bigger Screen. TV's are the biggest screen of the house with resolutions often up to 4K - This is not only a great opportunity to understand the fine detail of Canon's camera resolution but it's the moment our users get to share, with their most close ones the reward of the stories and experiences they can relive with the craft of photographs.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; With Canon Irista's smart search, you can browse for any lens, Camera, activity, or even who's in it to find photos in you collection, up to 10TB with cloud storage, on your TV. &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Sharing Improvements

This project looks at improving sharing mechanics for Irista users by making clear distinctions between inviting a user to an Album or sharing a public Album link.
The starting point was to address problems identified during usability testing of the sharing feature after the introduction of “Collaborative Albums” by the previous team. This feature allows two users registered in Irista to co-own an Album and thus share easily photos from their Irista account. This was unclearly explained in the Interface and user testing revealed unclarity regarding the feature and its flows.
The bried has limited scope - No changes to the API meant we had to redesign the feature with certain constraints from the previous iteration. 

Some of the key challenges surfaced included:

Users don’t understand the two different Sharing OptionsThe benefits of each sharing option was not clearly explainedSingle entry point for two sharing options Unclear Modal with two sharing options stacked
We addressed this issue by creating distinct entry points to a tabbed modal that allows the user to either send and Invite or create a public link, creating a clearer distinction of the outcome. An explanation of the feature and it’s utility was also added to further educate about the users about the differences between the two flows.

The following screen illustrates some of the annotations made to represent some of the difficulties experienced by our users during the sharing flow. Key concerns regarding a single entry point for two distinct flows and unclarity regarding two different sharing mechanisms as well as the ambiguity of the word “Collaborate”.

We started our intervention by creating a single modal with a tab for each of the sharing modes. We have alsoi renamed them to clearer labels: Link and Invite
As we previously explained, both forms of sharing have their advantages, but users reported not understanding the differnence so we created a caption under each tab that explains what does it mean to hsare with an Invite or with a link.

Further changes were made to the interface with clear labelled call to actions, to “Send Invites” and social media iconography. Lastly feedback messages were added for users to have a clear visual confirmation at the end of the flow.
The double tabbed modal allowed to create two distinct entrypoints in the albums page but surfacing to the user an alternative form of sharing by flicking through the tabs.

The importance of this project was also highlighted on the mobile applications and we worked of aligning all the platforms while trying to keep consistent with native patterns.

Outcome
The percentage of albums shared increased, reaching 35% following the months after the release, meaning that over one in three albums is now shared.
The percentage of accepted invites also went up by 20% compared with the same period last year, translating in an improvement of 50% improvement in the number of invitees per album.

This project looks at removing the burden of a repetitive flow in for any Photographer - organising their collection by creating albums or folders with their photos; Albums are very important to Photographers, as they represent a more curated space for their most important moments captured through photography.Nevertheless, our user-led insights have surfaced album creation as a time-consuming task. Following those insights, we looked at opportunities to use computer vision and intelligent algorithms to create tailored and meaningful albums and present them to the user.




	Experience Principles

	Surfacing — Discovering Suggested Albums should be easy and part of the User’s Album Flow.Saving — Users should select which Sugested Albums to keep in their Albums Collection. Relevance — Ensure Suggested Albums are relevant to the user.


The user journey was designed to be clear and consistent with the existing albums flow.By navigating to their Albums tab, users can find Suggested Albums. These new album cards are highlighted by being positioned in a Horizontal Carousel on the top of the page, and by their size and different aspect ratio. 
 The user can then click on each of the cards to view the photos automatically selected for that suggested album; the user can then choose to &#38;nbsp;Save, Share, Create Photobook or Delete the album. This ensures that a suggestion is not forced on the user album collection, but rather individually picked according to each user.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; From Albums to Memories.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; In this project we looked at creating an Unique Selling Proposition for Canon Users. We created a proposal to move from photo storage to storytelling, allowing the user to craft visual stories with the re-ordering of images, layout and insertion of text. This feature will allow users to create a deeper connection with the platform&#38;nbsp;—  by becoming the place to create stories and memories after the photos have been taken. 
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Combined with existing features in Canon Irista, such as private sharing and collaborators, users can share one album —  one memory — privately with their friends so that they all curate their story.
 
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; For hobbyist and semi-professional Photographers it also means an opportunity to curate and expose their work easily straight from their photo storage platform, by sharing the album with a public link to be exposed to potential clients and grow their network around their work.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; To allow users to interact seamless with the product, a drag and drop interaction was designed. This interaction allows the user to grab any image and drop it anywhere else in the album, quickly moving pictures around to edit the layout of the album. This interaction is signalised by the cursor, which changed to a hand-grab when hovering an image. Dragging an object  —  Photo or Text  —  is signalised with a thumbnail, a hand cursor, and when dragging multiple objects, the cursor also displays a counter. The place where the photos will be dropped is highlighted by a red line that surfaces between the images by increasing the padding between the grid as if preparing to accommodate the new image being dropped.

Creating a set of organisation tools that allow photographers to find their images quickly and tidy up large collections of photographs.

This project was started off some improvements of the experience of organising photos in Irista, and benchmarking it to more professional photo management tools.This analysis with feedback from our users put us on the track not only to improve existing featurs but also to create standard features such has rating, reject, flags, batch tagging, batch renaming, among others.
&#38;nbsp;“As a Photographer, Irista doesn’t offer enough tools to keep my collection organised - it lacks some basic tools that professional photographer software offers, such has a tagging, rating and other organisation mechanisms.”
